About this tour

Comfort's High Street is one of the most intact 19th-century German-immigrant commercial districts left in Texas — hotels, saloons, banks, and stores built in native limestone by the same handful of families across three generations. This walk traces that street through the Ingenhuetts, who ran half the businesses in town at one point or another, the Faltin family whose partnership seeded a ranching empire, and the fachwerk cottages tucked just off the main block. It's a downtown that reads less like a museum and more like a family tree in stone.
