About this tour

When most of Houston's honky-tonks and dive rooms had gone quiet or been bulldozed, a stretch of Main Street in Midtown quietly became the city's live-music anchor. At its heart sits the Continental Club, a Houston cousin of the legendary Austin room of the same name, throwing rockabilly, soul, garage and Tex-Mex across a low stage most nights of the week. Around it, a small constellation of bars grew up — a beer garden under the oaks, a circus-tent lounge next door, a rooftop looking back at downtown's lights. This short evening walk threads those rooms together, so you can trace how a single block became the place Houston goes to hear a band play loud. Come after dark, wear shoes you can dance in, and let the music pull you from door to door.
