About this tour

Houston's Chinatown isn't the compact downtown enclave you might picture — it's a sprawling 'Asiatown' of strip-mall plazas stretched for miles along Bellaire Boulevard on the southwest side, one of the largest and most vibrant Asian commercial districts in the country. This short walking crawl focuses on one of its densest, most walkable corners, anchored by Dun Huang Plaza — a small self-contained Chinatown of its own, with a supermarket, dumpling houses, noodle shops, and a boba tea stand seemingly on every landing. You'll graze rather than feast: a basket of soup dumplings here, hand-pulled noodles there, a cup of bubble tea to walk with. Keep some cash on hand for the smaller counters, come hungry but plan to share, and let the smells and neon signs pull you from one shop to the next. Weekends are busiest and most fun; parking garages serve the plaza when you're ready to drive off.
