About this tour

Montrose has long been Houston's bohemian heart — a neighborhood of old bungalows, coffee shops, plant stores, and independent retailers that has kept its counterculture streak even as the city changed around it. It's also the city's record-shop country, home to the oldest independent music store in Houston and a scene of vinyl diggers, vintage sellers, and surf-and-skate shops that draw browsers from across the region. This walk threads the district's music and vintage stores, from a five-decade-old record institution to a two-floor vinyl warren inspired by a 1950s book about the city itself. Along the way you'll pass the coffee spots and plant shops that give Montrose its easy, unhurried feel. Come with time to flip through crates — the whole point of a Montrose afternoon is that you're not in a hurry. Weekends bring in-store performances and listening parties to some of these shops, so check ahead.
