About this tour

Houston wears its art outdoors. Scattered across downtown, the museum district, and the green ribbon of Buffalo Bayou Park are monumental sculptures and fountains that have become genuine landmarks — the kind of thing locals give directions by. This driving loop links a handful of the city's most famous outdoor artworks, from the largest sculpture a Spanish surrealist ever made to a mirror-polished column that predates Chicago's beloved Bean. You'll pass a dandelion of bronze pipes, a grove of glowing human figures, and a stainless-steel giant that inverts the whole world in its surface. Park where you can at each stop and walk the last little bit; several sit in plazas or parkland where you'll want to see the work from more than one angle. Save this one for a clear day, when the metal catches the light.
