About this tour

Tucked just west of Rice University, Rice Village is one of Houston's oldest and best-loved shopping districts — a walkable, tree-lined grid of more than three hundred shops, restaurants, and pubs that has drawn locals since the late 1930s. It has weathered booms and lulls over the decades, revitalized each time by the young families who filled the neighborhoods around it, and today it mixes homegrown boutiques with national names in an easy, small-town-feeling few blocks. This stroll wanders the heart of the district, pointing out the independent shops that give the Village its personality, the corners worth pausing at, and the spots to duck in for a bite or a coffee. There's no strict route here — the Village rewards drifting. Come mid-afternoon, when the light filters through the oaks and the sidewalks are lively but not crowded.
