In one small plot on San Antonio's West Side lies an unusually dense cluster of Texas Revolution history: two signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence, a San Jacinto veteran, a soldier from the Storming of Bexar, a Texas Ranger, a guide to the Texas Army, and the infant who grew up to be the last known living survivor of the Alamo. San Fernando Cemetery No. 1 has been in continuous use since the 1840s, making it one of the oldest operating cemeteries in Texas — and its oldest section reads like a roll call of the Tejano families who fought, signed, and built the republic most histories credit to Anglo settlers alone. This is a quiet, respectful walk through a handful of graves clustered close together; please keep voices low and be mindful of other visitors and any services in progress.
