History

Opened in 1976, the Texas Forestry Museum preserves the history of the East Texas Pineywoods lumber industry, which made Lufkin and Angelina County the lumber capital of Texas by the 1880s. Its collection of more than 31,000 artifacts includes a sawmill-town exhibit, a logging locomotive and depot, a paper mill room, and a fire lookout tower. The museum is the only one of its kind in Texas and charges no admission.
