History

The IOOF (Odd Fellows) Cemetery in Lufkin fronts East Lufkin Avenue and is one section of the large complex historically known as the Lufkin City Cemeteries, where the adjoining Glendale, Hillcrest, Knight, and IOOF grounds have merged so that only driveways divide them. IOOF stands for the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a fraternal order that reached Texas in the late 1830s. Survey records show burials at the IOOF section spanning roughly 1860 to 1945, making it one of Lufkin's oldest resting places.
