History
The Charles Goodnight Historical Center preserves the Folk-Victorian ranch house that legendary cattleman Charles Goodnight built in 1887 for the Goodnight-Thayer Cattle Company and lived in until his death in 1929. Goodnight, who served as a Texas Ranger scout, invented the chuckwagon, and co-founded the JA Ranch in Palo Duro Canyon in 1877, saw his home donated to the Armstrong County Museum in 2005; it reopened restored in 2012 alongside the J. Evetts Haley Visitor and Education Center, which opened in 2013.
