History

Goodnight Cemetery lies near the Panhandle town of Goodnight, both named for pioneer cattleman Charles Goodnight, who with his wife Mary Ann Dyer Goodnight ranched the nearby Palo Duro Canyon country from the 1870s. Charles Goodnight, co-blazer of the Goodnight-Loving Trail and founder of Goodnight College, died in 1929 and is buried here beside Mary Ann.
