History
This faux bois pedestrian footbridge in San Antonio's Brackenridge Park was created around 1925-1926 by Mexican-born sculptor Dionicio Rodriguez, who was commissioned by park commissioner Ray Lambert. Rodriguez perfected a secret technique of carving chemically treated reinforced concrete so that it convincingly resembles woven wooden limbs. The bridge is a signature example of his 'false wood' artistry and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.
