History

Austrian immigrant Joseph Huebner acquired 800 acres in Leon Valley in 1858 and completed this limestone homestead and stagecoach stop by 1862 on the San Antonio-to-Bandera route, offering blacksmithing, fresh stock and overnight lodging when creeks flooded. Judge John F. Onion and his family lived here for 53 years beginning in the 1930s, and the site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and named a Texas historic landmark in 2005.
