History
San Antonio was part of Galen from the very beginning: when Humana created Galen Health Institutes in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1989, the school's one-year practical-nursing course was taught at only three sites, Louisville, St. Petersburg, Florida, and San Antonio. A 2005 accreditation from the Council on Occupational Education let the school move into two-year associate degrees for future registered nurses, and it renamed itself Galen College of Nursing at the same time. After HCA Healthcare acquired a majority stake in 2020, Galen added online bachelor's and master's programs for working RNs and expanded to campuses in many states. The San Antonio campus on IH-10 West now offers vocational nursing, an LVN-to-ADN bridge and associate and bachelor's nursing degrees, with simulation labs on site and off-campus instructional sites in Austin, Richardson and Houston.
