History

The Patsy P. and Walter Scott Light House is a midcentury modernist residence built in 1961 at the corner of Argyle Avenue and Morton Street in Alamo Heights. Designed by architect Brooks Martin with Harold Wong, the glass-walled 'jewel box' is supported by slender steel columns on an innovative concrete foundation, with a flat roof and deep overhangs to shield the interior from the Texas sun. The design earned Martin a Texas Society of Architects AIA Award of Merit in 1962, and the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.
