History
Built in 1926 as a memorial to San Antonio's World War I dead, the Municipal Auditorium is a limestone Spanish Colonial Revival building designed by Atlee Ayres, his son Robert M. Ayres, and associates George Willis and Emmett Jackson, who won a 1929 AIA gold medal for it. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981; a 1979 fire gutted the interior, and portions of the exterior were preserved and incorporated into the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.
