History

The San Antonio Scottish Rite Library and Museum are housed within the Scottish Rite Cathedral, a classical-revival temple built between 1922 and 1924 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. Its elaborate bronze front doors, depicting George Washington and Sam Houston, were sculpted by Pompeo Coppini. The collection preserves rare Masonic books and early publications, archival documents from South Texas lodges, ceremonial regalia and portraits.
