History

The Burnet County Courthouse, the third to serve the county, was designed by architect Lewis Milton Wirtz in the Moderne style and built between 1936 and 1937 partly with Works Progress Administration funds. The two-story building is faced in polished pink granite, the same stone used for the Texas State Capitol, with panels etched with scenes of local history and commerce. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.
