History
Rocky Rest, near Burnet, was built about 1860 by Adam R. Johnson, later a Confederate general. Constructed of hand-hewn stone and logs, its thick walls and high windows were designed for defense against Indian raids. The home was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1966.
