History

The George Whitaker Home in Burnet was built in 1870 of hand-hewn rock and included an inside cistern; stone from an old courthouse was reused in a 1939 addition. Whitaker, an early settler, was the first recorded editor of the Burnet Bulletin newspaper. The state historical marker was erected in 1966.
