History
The Burnet County Jail was built in 1884 of hand-hewn native stone, with cells on the upper floor and the sheriff's office and living quarters below; the county's first library was even founded on its second floor. The jail housed prisoners continuously until a new facility opened in 1982 and now stands as a preserved historic building at 109 South Pierce Street in Burnet, marked as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark since 1966.
