History
This marker near Baird recalls the United States military telegraph line strung in 1874-1875 to connect Fort Griffin with Fort Concho across the West Texas frontier. The line crossed this location along what later became a stretch of U.S. Route 80. The State of Texas erected the granite marker in 1936 during the Texas Centennial.
