History
The Ross Cemetery at Baird grew from the town founded when the Texas and Pacific Railway arrived in December 1880. Ten acres reserved in 1881 were deeded by James Evans Ross, giving the cemetery its name; the first burial, a cowboy, came in April 1881, and the oldest marked grave is that of Andrew O. Raney (July 1881). The Baird Cemetery Association was formed in 1975, and the ground was certified a Historic Texas Cemetery in 2006.
