History

Oplin Cemetery serves the community of Oplin in southwestern Callahan County, which dates from the 1890s and received a post office in 1903. Local lore holds that the name Oplin was borrowed from a South American town at the suggestion of merchant Steve Jones. By 1940 the community supported some 200 residents, several businesses, a school and this cemetery before declining after World War II.
