History

The Costumes of the Americas Museum in Brownsville preserves and exhibits a collection of more than 600 indigenous costumes and textiles from North, Central, and South America. It traces its origins to the 1930s Pan American Round Table led by U.S. expatriate Bessie Kirkland Johnson, and reopened at 1004 East 6th Street in September 2022. Its holdings are considered among the largest of their kind.
