History

Renfro Cemetery grew from the settlement of John Folkner Renfro Sr. (1797-1859) and his wife Rebecca, who came to Texas from Missouri by wagon in 1839 and by 1840 had settled the surrounding area known as Renfro Prairie. Leaders in the local Methodist church, the Renfros share this pioneer burial ground with neighboring families including the Berry, Davis, Kirby, Payne and Spivey families. The private cemetery, holding roughly 80 marked graves, is cared for by the Spivey-Renfro Cemetery Association.
