History

Fort Chadbourne Cemetery serves the community that grew up around Fort Chadbourne, the U.S. Army post established in the early 1850s on Oak Creek to guard the frontier and the Butterfield stage line in present-day Coke County. Its burials date from the mid-19th century onward and include soldiers, pioneer families, and later residents of the surrounding ranch country north of Bronte.
