History

Collinsworth Cemetery in Plano was created during a smallpox epidemic in the spring of 1895, after the Collinsworth family unknowingly hosted a traveling salesman who carried the disease and infected the household. The outbreak killed roughly a dozen or more people, and the city responded by quarantining a large area of Plano and urging residents to be vaccinated. The family burial ground was used until 1925 and is thought to hold about thirty Collinsworth graves; it received a Historic Texas Cemetery marker in 2004.
