History

Dodson Cemetery lies about half a mile northeast of Dodson, a town in southeastern Collingsworth County founded in the spring of 1910 by railroad promoter Frank Kell. The town was named for Elmore Dodson, who donated a 200-acre land grant as a bonus to bring the Wellington branch of the Wichita Falls and Northwestern Railway through, and its formal opening drew a trainload of celebrants from Oklahoma that August. The cemetery is maintained by a local cemetery association.
