History

This burial ground is the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery at Nada in southern Colorado County, named for the parish's Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Nada was settled in the 1880s by German and Czech immigrants; in 1889 the Schoellmann and Laby families donated land for a Catholic church and school, and the church was built in 1896. Many of the older tombstones bear Czech or German inscriptions, reflecting the community's immigrant heritage.
