History

Union Hill Cemetery is a historically African American burial ground in the Matthews community south of Eagle Lake in Colorado County. Its graves, dating to at least the early 1900s, include members of prominent local Black families such as the Hurds, Blacks, and Hodges, among them World War II veteran Edward Black.
