History

Garwood Cemetery lies about two and a half miles west of the town of Garwood in southern Colorado County, on land that J. Pinchback deeded to the Garwood Cemetery Association. The town itself took shape after 1896, when the Red Bluff irrigation system drew rice farmers to the area, and was named for Houston attorney Hiram Morgan Garwood. The cemetery's earliest recorded burial dates to 1912.
