History
The Old Osage Cemetery sits on private land a few hundred yards northeast of the Osage Cemetery near Weimar in northwestern Colorado County, on the site of the vanished town of Osage. Osage was settled beginning in 1855 by Scotch-Irish and English families from Laurel, Mississippi, whose leader, Dr. Samuel D. McLeary, named it for the Osage-orange trees in the area; the town faded after the railroad bypassed it for Weimar. The old cemetery consists of a stone-and-masonry enclosure sheltering five graves of the Taylor family.
