History

The Lindheimer House in New Braunfels was built in 1852 by Ferdinand Lindheimer, the "Father of Texas Botany," who collected tens of thousands of plant specimens and identified more than 1,500 species. From 1853 he edited the Neu-Braunfelser Zeitung newspaper out of a print shop at the rear of the saltbox-style home. Now a museum operated by the New Braunfels Conservation Society, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
