History
Ferdinand Jacob Lindheimer, born in Germany in 1801, served in the Texas Army in 1836 and became known as the 'Father of Texas Botany' for his pioneering plant collecting across the state. Settling permanently at New Braunfels, he built this timber-framed saltbox home in 1852 and edited the Neu-Braunfelser Zeitung newspaper from 1852 to 1872. The house, now a museum, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
