History

The homestead built by Captain James and Susannah Cunningham is the oldest house still standing in Comanche County. The Cunninghams settled on Mountain Creek, a tributary of the South Leon River, in September 1855 when the area was still frontier wilderness, and the ranch house they built served the family for nearly half a century. Sold in 1900, it was bought back and restored in 1985 by a Cunningham descendant; it is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and National Register-listed property.
