History

Union Cemetery is a pioneer burial ground west of Gustine in southern Comanche County, reached about two miles west of town along Highway 36. Its oldest identified grave is that of Susan A. Speed, first wife of C. C. Speed, whose resting place is noted with an iron marker. Members of the Risher family, among the county's mid-19th-century settlers, are also buried here, reflecting the cemetery's long service to the surrounding rural community.
