History
This Classical Revival tower at 1309 Main Street in Dallas was built in 1926 for the Republic National Bank and, at completion, was the tallest building in the city. It was designed by architect C. D. Hill, who died in early January 1926 before seeing it finished, and a 20-story west wing was added in 1931 by Coburn & Fowler. After the bank moved out, the building was renamed the Davis Building in 1954 for businessman Wirt Davis. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005 and has since been converted to residences known as The Drakestone.
