History
The Busch Building, later renamed the Kirby Building, is a 17-story Late Gothic Revival skyscraper at 1509 Main Street in downtown Dallas, completed in 1913 by beer magnate Adolphus Busch to accompany his nearby Hotel Adolphus. Designed by Barnett, Haynes & Barnett of St. Louis with the Dallas firm Lang & Witchell, it was one of the earliest American skyscrapers in the Gothic style. Sold in 1918 to the Kirby Investment Group of Houston and renamed, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and became the first downtown Dallas high-rise converted from offices to apartments.
