History
The Dickens County Courthouse, designed by E. L. Aiken and built in 1892-1893 on the public square in Dickens, follows the traditional cross-hall plan with county offices below and the courtroom above; it once had a polygonal central tower with a domed cupola. Its gray walls and the matching county jail were built from stone quarried outside town. Dickens County was named for a defender of the Alamo, and the courthouse and jail were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
