History

Romney Cemetery serves the small community of Romney on U.S. Highway 183 in central Eastland County, settled in 1880 by J. W. White, who named it for his hometown in West Virginia. The community gained a post office in 1890 and by 1904 supported a school, a cotton gin, and a blacksmith shop, though the arrival of the boll weevil around 1914 halted its growth as a ginning center. The cemetery lies roughly ten miles south of Cisco.
