History

Nimrod Cemetery serves the former community of Nimrod, first settled in 1876 by a group that included Ira Townsend and William M. Munn. The settlement, possibly known earlier as Monroe and Curtis, took the biblical name Nimrod when its post office opened in 1885 with Munn as postmaster. A 1907 fire and a tornado two years later devastated the town, and the burial ground survives as a designated Historic Texas Cemetery on FM 569 near Cisco.
