History

The Matthews–Templeton House at 606 West Denton Street in Ennis was built in 1935 by local builder Hix McCanless for Pearl C. Matthews, co-owner of the McKinney-based Matthews Brothers Department Store, which operated a branch in Ennis. It stands in Ennis's historic residential area and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 as part of the Historic Resources of Ennis.
