History

The Texas Polka Music Museum opened April 17, 2010, at 625 North Main in Schulenburg to preserve the legacy of Texas polka music brought by the Czech, German, and Polish immigrants who settled the region in the mid-1800s. It was the dream of founder Brenda Kocian, its first president, and honors Texas polka bands, musicians, and disc jockeys through photographs, costumes, and instruments. Since 2005 the museum has sponsored an annual Texas Polka Festival as its fundraiser.
