History

Known formally as the James Bell Settlement Graveyard and shown on some county maps simply as Bell Cemetery, this shaded burial ground lies about four miles from Ledbetter, between Ledbetter and Waldeck on Bell Settlement Road. A 2002 inventory recorded markers for sixty-six graves, though seventy-eight burials are on record. A sign at the cemetery's flagpole honors two Fayette County men who died in the Civil War, both privates in the Long Prairie German Company, Company E of Waul's Texas Legion.
