History
This eight-story Art Deco federal building was constructed in 1937 on the site of an 1890s Romanesque post office that was demolished to make way for it. Designed by Houston architect Alfred C. Finn, it is faced in Texas Cordova limestone over a granite base and adorned with carved limestone eagles and a red barrel-tile roof. The building continues to house the Galveston Division of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
