History
This National Folk style house was built about 1886 by Mollie Walters, who operated it as one of the more upscale brothels in Galveston's notorious red-light district known as "The Line." After Walters retired in 1906, the building continued to serve as a brothel under a succession of madams until state authorities finally shut the district down in the 1950s. It is regarded as the last surviving documented structure of that vice district and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
