History
'And Still We Rise... Galveston's Juneteenth Story' is an interactive exhibit in the carriage house of the 1859 Ashton Villa, overseen by the Galveston Historical Foundation's African American Heritage Committee. It traces the context and consequences of General Orders No. 3, issued in Galveston on June 19, 1865, announcing freedom to enslaved Texans, through to the present. Drawing on more than a dozen interviews and historical documents, the exhibit was produced with New Zealand's Gibson Group using immersive technology.
