History
This exuberant Queen Anne residence in Gonzales was built in 1895 for cattleman William Buckner "W. B." Houston, who amassed more than 6,000 acres in the county. The house features towers, turrets, and a wraparound porch, with interiors of parquet floors, carved longleaf-pine woodwork, embossed ceilings, and pocket doors, plus painted canvas murals in the attic created by his wife, Sue Houston. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.
