History

This Masonic burial ground serves Waelder, a Gonzales County town laid out in 1874 as a depot on the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway and named for San Antonio attorney Jacob Waelder. Many of Waelder's first residents, churches, and lodges relocated from the older community of Hopkinsville, five miles to the north, as the railroad drew business to the new town.
